  • Socks (Thick thermal walking socks and thin liner socks)

Medical & Toiletries

  • Tissues/toilet roll
  • UV Lip salve
  • Paracetamol
  • Blister kit
  • Rehydration sachets

  • Diamox (Anti altitude sickness medication – Well worth getting, you can buy it cheap in Moshi/Arusha, Take ½ a pill with breakfast and ½ a pill with dinner)
  • Sunscreen (Once your above the clouds the sun is super strong, everyone in my group got burnt even with factor 30 on, so either apply it like crazy or go for factor 50)
  • Waterless anti-bacterial soap
  • Muscle ache soothing gel/cream


  • Day pack/Small rucksack
  • Sleeping bag – 4 season (Although lots of companies provide these free or you can rent one in Moshi/Arusha for around £18/$30)
  • Head torch
  • Water purifier
  • High energy dextrose tablets
  • High energy drinks powder (This keeps your energy up while you’re walking and disguises the weird taste of the water provided)
  • Ziplock bags
  • Hand warmers (An absolute life saver on summit night, I’d highly recommend them)
  • 1x metal water bottle (useful for carrying extra water in the day and for cold nights as your guide will fill it with hot water for you)
  • 1x plastic sports style water bottle (much easier to drink out of than the metal ones)
  • Polarised sunglasses
