There’s a trail from Boca de Tomatlan (we stayed here for a couple of days in an amazing hotel, read about it on my other blog here) along the coast all the way to Las Animas, it’s a fairly easy hike if your vaguely fit. There is a fair amount of up hill steps in the first half but it’s very manageable. You pass through several other beaches, some completely empty and some with small secluded resorts on them. If your like me and prefer a less crowded beach I’d advise stopping and spending some time on these quieter and sometimes deserted beaches, then hiking on to Las Animas which is crowded with restaurants and is actually a very thin strip of sand! It takes about 2 hours to hike to Las Animas and from there you can always hike back the way you came or catch a water taxi back to Boca for about 30 pesos per person.
To get onto the trail in Boca cross the river by the two footbridges and turn right just continue to follow that path and it’ll take you all the way, the trail is not always clearly defined but you should be able to see the vague direction your headed. You pass through section of concreted path and steps, rocky sections, beach sections and sections of trail through the beachside jungle.
